The beauty of leadership is that it can either be a talent that someone is born with or it can be a skill gained through years of trial and error.
Leadership is not a role. Leadership is not a position. Leadership is the ability to properly articulate a vision and guide your people to that vision through the inevitable trials and tribulations.
Why does a great leader remove fear? Because fear is the biggest thief of confidence. In order for your vision to come to light, people need to have the confidence to learn, the confidence to speak truth to power, the confidence to make decisions and most importantly the confidence to make mistakes and grow from them.
Leadership as a talent is easy. It comes more naturally. It comes subconsciously. What is more difficult is attaining leadership as a skill because it requires us to scrutinize ourselves and to take a deeper look into our own psyche. Leadership as a skill requires us to "Learn, unlearn and relearn".
The greatest challenge of all however is learning to be a leader while having power. It takes an almost unnatural level of humbleness and humility to acquire leadership skills while also holding a position of power and authority.
All of us have in us what it takes to be great leaders. All we need to do is be honest with ourselves, constantly improve and accept that we have something to learn from each and everybody we come across, whether good or bad.
May we all grow to be leaders who remove fear and instill confidence in everyone who surrounds us. May we all have the mental wherewithall to take the best qualities of each individual around us and turn it into the organization's strength
